Civil Services examination is held by the UPSC in accordance with the rules published by the Department of Personnel & Training.
The competitive examination comprises two successive stages :
1. Civil Services (Preliminary) Examinations (Objective Type) for the selection of candidates for Main Examination; and
2. Civil Services (Main) Examination (Written and Interview) for the selection of candidates for the various services and posts.
In the scheme of the Civil Services Examination, as per the decision of Government of India, there is a change in the syllabus and pattern of the Preliminary Examination from 2011. The Preliminary Examination will now comprise of two compulsory Papers of 200 marks each and of two hours duration each
