All the questions in the section were of multiple-choice with four options each.
Pattern
Total No. of Qs:60
No. of Qs to be answered: 50 (First 50 answered questions will be considered for evaluation)
Marking Scheme: +5 and -1
Duration: 60 Minutes
Area-wise
General Awareness :25 Questions
Quantitative :17 Questions
Reasoning : 18 Questions
Difficulty Level: Overall, the exam was not very tough in the Quantitative Ability and Reasoning parts. General Awareness questions, however, tough testing students; knowledge at much deeper levels. In QA and LR areas, a majority of questions were from the 'easy' category, making the test crackable for a good number of wel-prepared students. There were tough Questions too, which would be the differentiators between well-prepared students and others.
Let us now look at each of the areas in detail.
General Awareness
No. of Qs : 25
Current Affairs : 10 (Awards, Government schemes etc)
Difficulty level : 6 Easy, 2 Medium, 2 Difficult
Static GK : 15
Split of Static GK
Geography 3 Difficult (Mountain Passes, Glaciers etc)
History & Polity 3 Difficult (Formation of States etc.)
Science & Technology 3 Easy (pH levels, Deficiency related diseases etc)
Miscellaneous 7 2 Easy, 5 Difficult (Persons and professions, Currencies, Handicrafts etc.)
This was one section that the students would not have had an easy ride with. With questions on years of state formation etc., students had to dig deep into their repertoire to be able to answer these questions correctly. That said, there were questions on matching, which may have looked at the outset, but if the students knew one of the matches correctly, they could eliminate the other options backed by this knowledge.
7-8 correct attempts can be considered good in this area.
Quantitative/Numerical
The area had a good mix of questions from all the arithmetic topics. Statistics an trigonometry were the two non-arithmetic topic that were tested, with one question each from these topics. The section did not have any ‘Difficult’ questions – all were double even for the moderately prepared student. While this is good news while taking the test, this would be the scoring area for many, making the overall score, and therefore, the ranks, highly dependent on this area.
Topic | No. of Qs | Difficulty level |

14-15 attempts within 30-35 minutes can be considered to be a good effort in this area.

As can be seen, the number of questions that may have troubled students were only 2-5 out of the total of 18. Students would have done well to skip such problem questions initially and focus on the getting the others correctly. Once these are exhausted the time remaining, if any, could be spent of solving the tough ones. One of the Non-verbal reasoning was definitely tough and students would have done well to leave this alone without wasting too much time on it. Analytical Puzzles (AP) had only two questions, and both were on the easier side, not testing students too much.
Attempting 13-15 questions within 15-20 minutes can be considered to be a good effort in this area.
