GATE 2020 ME Paper was conducted on 1st Feb 2020 in 2 slots.

As per the usual format of GATE exam, the online exam consisted of both Numerical Answer Type (NAT) and Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).

Analysis of the Exam

Question Pattern

It was observed that there were more MCQ’s than NAT Questions in comparison to that provided last year.

The exam interface was as usual compared to Last Year GATE Exam.

(a) Forenoon Slot:The paper involved 41 Multiple Choice Questions & 24 Numerical Answer Type Questions. The Difficulty Level of 1 Marks questions were all between Easy to Medium level while the 2 Marks questions were between Medium to Difficult. Difficulty Level of Engineering Maths & Aptitude questions were between Easy to Medium which could be answered within a short time.

(b) Afternoon Slot: The paper involved 37 Multiple Choice Questions & 28 Numerical Answer Type Questions. The Difficulty Level of 1 Marks questions were all between Easy to Medium level while the 2 Marks questions were between Medium to Difficult. 1 Mark Questions were more Conceptual as compared to Last Year. 2 Mark Questions were bit lengthy and difficult too.

Difficulty Level of Engineering Maths & Aptitude questions were between Easy to Medium which could be answered within a short time.

Electronics & Communication Engg.

Afternoon Slot: The paper involved 42 Multiple Choice Questions & 23 Numerical Answer Type Questions. Questions from Networks were asked from Theorems. 2-Port Networks, AC Analysis & State Equations, where as in EDC majority of the questions are asked from MOSFET & Opto Electronics & Semiconductors.

Questions from Control Systems are from RH Criterion, Frequency Response Analysis & Time Response Analysis. Majority of the Questions in Signals & Systems are from Discrete System Analysis. Questions from Digital, Analog & Communications are from Standard Core Topics.

Difficulty Level of Engineering Maths & Aptitude questions were between Easy to Medium which could be answered within a short time.

Electrical & Electronics Engg.

The paper involved 42 Multiple Choice Questions & 23 Numerical Answer Type Questions. Questions from Analog Circuits were Very Difficult Compared to Last Year. Same happened with Power Electronics as well. This time more questions has been asked from Electro Magnetic Fields. 2 Mark Questions were found to be Lengthy & Tricky as well. Questions from Signals and Systems & Networks were Medium but Tricky. Overall the Difficulty Level of the Paper was found to be Difficult.
