SLAT 2020 Analysis

The Symbiosis Law Admission Test (SLAT) was conducted from July 26th to 28th for admission to the LAW programme offered by the Symbiosis law schools located in Pune, Hyderabad, Nagpur and Noida. The exam was conducted in home proctored computer-based format. The total duration of the exam was 75 minutes. The exam was an objective multiple-choice question paper divided into 5 sections viz., Logical Reasoning, Legal Reasoning, Analytical Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, and General Knowledge having a total of 75 questions with 15 questions in each section. Each question had 4 options and carried one mark each. There was no negative marking for wrong answers.

Unlike previous years, this year the MCQ section was followed by the Written Ability Test (WAT) where the test-takers had to choose one of the two topics and write an essay on it. The duration allotted for WAT was 30 minutes.

Logical Reasoning

The questions in this section were easy-moderate in difficulty level. The topics tested during the three days were from wide areas like Number Series, Coding-Decoding, Blood Relations, Critical Reasoning, Analytical Puzzles - Arrangements. Visual Reasoning also formed a part of this section.

A score of (12 +/- 1) can be considered a good score in this section.

Legal Reasoning

The section on Legal Reasoning this year also did not pose a high challenge as the questions were more knowledge based in nature rather than application based. Apart from the regular principle-fact based questions, questions on legal GK were also asked. Questions were predominantly based on Constitution, Contracts, Torts, Criminal Law.

A score of (12 +/- 2) can be considered to be a fairly good score.

Analytical Reasoning

This was the simplest of the sections. Questions were mostly from Arithmetic viz., Ratio & Proportion, Number series, Letter series, Mixtures & Alligation, Profit & Loss, Percentages etc. This was as easy section and 12+ marks could have been easily scored

Reading Comprehension

The section on Reading Comprehension was relatively an easier section. All the three passages were doable as most of them had direct and easy questions. The word count varied from 100 to 300 words. A student should have done well in this section to give a boost to the overall score. About 12-13 marks in this section can be considered to be a good score.

General Knowledge

The GK section had easy to moderately difficult questions ranging from static GK to current affairs, however the later one had a dominance over the former one. The questions were taken from the topics like Personalities, International news/forums, Awards, Science & Technology, Summits etc. A score of 12-13 can be considered to be a good score in this section.
