About MBA

An overseas Indian category candidate who applies with a valid GMAT score* instead of a CAT score should have a total scaled score of at least 720. Indians resident outside India fall under the "Overseas Indian candidates" category. To qualify as an Indian resident abroad, a candidate should be an Indian passport holder who expects to live, work or study outside India for at least 12 months continuously as on December 31, 2021. The next stage of the admission process, i.e., Analytical Writing Test (AWT) and Personal Interview (PI), will be held in India. Candidates called for this stage will have to make their own travel arrangements and produce evidence of having qualified for the "Overseas Indian candidates" category.

Eligibility

The candidate must hold a bachelor's degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (in case of the candidate belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST)/Persons with Disabilities (PwD) category, this is relaxed to 45%), of any of the universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a university under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India. The bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification obtained by the candidate must entail a minimum of three years of education after completing higher secondary schooling (10+2) or equivalent. The percentage obtained by the candidate in the bachelor's degree would be based on the practice followed by the institution/university from where the candidate has obtained the degree. In case of the candidate being awarded grades/CGPA instead of marks, the equivalence would be based on the equivalence certified by the institution/university from where they have obtained the bachelor's degree. In case the institution/university does not have any scheme for converting the CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence would be established by IIMA by dividing the obtained CGPA by the maximum possible CGPA and multiplying the resultant by 100.

A candidate appearing for the final year bachelor's degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed the degree requirements and are awaiting results can also apply. Such a candidate must produce a certificate from the principal/head of the department/registrar/director of the institution/university certifying that the candidate is currently in the final year/is awaiting final results and has obtained at least 50% marks or equivalent (45% in case of the candidate belonging to SC/ST/PwD category) based on latest available grades/marks. Such a candidate, if selected, will be allowed to join the programme provisionally only if they submit a certificate latest by June 30, 2022 from the principal/head of the department/registrar/director of the institution/university (issued on or before June 30, 2022) stating that they have completed all the requirements (the result may, however, be awaited) for obtaining the bachelor's degree/equivalent qualification on the date of issue of the certificate. Their admission will be confirmed only when the candidate submits the mark-sheet and a certificate of having passed the bachelor's degree/equivalent qualification referred to in the certificate issued by the principal/head of the department/registrar/director of the institution/university with at least 50% marks (45% in case of the candidate belonging to SC/ST/PwD category). It is mandatory for a final year student, who is provisionally admitted, to submit the mark-sheet and degree certificate of the final year bachelor's degree examination held on or before June 30, 2022 (including supplementaries, if any), to be eligible for admission to the Post Graduate Programme (PGP) batch 2022-24. The deadline for submission of the mark-sheet and the certificate is December 31, 2022. Non-fulfillment of this condition will automatically result in the cancellation of the provisional admission. IIMA would not allow any candidate to join its PGP in case the candidate is unable to complete all the requirements for a bachelor's degree on or before June 30, 2022.

*GMAT taken before December 15, 2016 will not be valid

The admissions department follows a well-defined and detailed admission process which judges candidates on a number of parameters since empirical research on recruitment and selection shows the efficacy of multiple criteria.

IIMB has found over the years that students who perform well in the academic programme are typically those who have a consistently good academic record during their school, high school and graduation level, besides exhibiting sufficiently high aptitude as measured by CAT (Common Admission Test of the IIMs)/GMAT. Therefore IIMB uses multiple parameters, namely academic performance in school, high school and graduation programmes as well as candidate’s scores in CAT/GMAT to judge the suitability of candidates for the PGP programme. Relevant work experience, if any, is also given weightage. The CAT/GMAT score, over and above being a selection criterion, is also used to establish the minimum level of proficiency that is expected from the candidate in respective faculties as indicated by section-wise minimum scores in the CAT/GMAT. Multiple criteria are used to arrive at a composite score for every candidate, which is used to select candidates for the subsequent stage.

Thus the CAT/GMAT score is one of the more important parameters. The CAT/GMAT score that is used as a cutoff varies from year to year. The admission process includes a personal interview, conducted through remote video conferencing for international students, and an assessment of writing ability.

There are two channels for admissions to the PGP: one for domestic candidates and the other for International candidates. The admission requirements and application processes for each channel are different.

International Admissions: International candidates are admitted through direct applications. International candidates are Indian nationals or foreigners with valid passports or travel documents residing outside India and not in a position to take the Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management at various centers in India. These candidates are required to have a valid Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) score and have an official result reported to the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB). Final selection is based on performance in GMAT, Scholastic Achievement, Work Experience, performance in the Writing Ability Test, and Interview.

Definition of 'Overseas Candidate':

Such candidates will have to submit a certificate from the Principal/Registrar of his/her University/College/Institute stating that the university did not conduct the exams or did not award marks or CGPA but awarded only pass or pass marks or promotion in one or more years/semesters, as the case may be.

Short-listing for Personal Interview (PI):

Candidate’s GMAT score in Quantitative Analysis and Verbal Analysis sections will be used to compute the candidate’s equivalent CAT 2021 score as per the formulae given below.

QA and VA represent the candidate’s GMAT score in the Quantitative Analysis and Verbal Analysis sections, respectively. QAmax and VAmax represent the maximum possible GMAT scores in the Quantitative Analysis and Verbal Analysis sections, respectively. Min_C represents the minimum of the sum of scores in Quantitative Analysis (QA) and Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC) sections of those scoring 100 percentiles in CAT 2021.

Candidate’s equivalent CAT 2021 score = average of the total score of those securing a sum of EQQV in QA and VARC in CAT 2021

In case of no exact match for EQQV, linear interpolation will be used to determine the candidate’s equivalent CAT 2021 score.

Candidate’s equivalent CAT 2021 score is then used to determine the candidate’s Composite Score using the same criteria as used for the candidates applying through CAT 2021. The details of determining the composite score of a candidate applying through CAT 2021 are provided in the Stage II (Table 2 and 3) of Admission Policy available at:

https://www.iimcal.ac.in/programs/pgp/admission/admission-policy/admission-procedure-for-domestic-candidates

Shortlisted candidates will be required to appear for Personal Interview (PI) tentatively scheduled between February and April, 2022. The mode of interview will be communicated once the exercise of shortlist for PI is complete. The candidate will have to bear all the expenses made, if any, for attending the interview.

Final Selection:

The final selection of the candidate would be based on equivalent CAT 2021 score, performance in the PI, academic diversity and work experience. The details of the weights of these components are provided in Stage III (Table 4 and Table 5) of the admission policy available at:

https://iimcal.ac.in/programs/pgp/admission/admission-policy/admission-procedure-for-domestic-candidates

Fees and Expenses:

The total fee for the overseas student for the last batch was USD 60,000 (Sixty thousand only) for a period of two years. The fee is payable, phase-wise, in six terms over two years. In addition to the course fees, the overseas student is required to pay a one-time refundable caution deposit of INR 20,000 (Twenty thousand only). Living and other expenses during the period of his/her stay are payable in Indian rupees which are extra and will depend upon choice of food and other preferences and can vary from INR 6,000/- to 7,000/- per month.

Availability of loans from banks and financial institutions:

Financial Institutions and Commercial Banks provide loans to students at a concessional rate of interest. Details will be available at their websites. Students who desire to avail of the loan facility should contact banks directly. Although the Institute endeavors to facilitate the process of availing loans from financial institutions and banks, it is not directly involved in this process.
