An Insight Into Sectoral MBA Programs
There are, broadly speaking, two types of MBA programs - Regular MBA and Sectoral MBA.
A regular MBA program empowers a student with knowledge which can be applied in any sector/ industry of one's choice. The students graduating from these programs secure jobs in different domains/industries. On the other hand, a sectoral MBA's syllabus is designed keeping in mind specific requirements of 1-2 sectors/industries. Therefore the placement for students in these programs happens in those industries alone.
A student who has clarity about what kind of job/role/industry he/she would like to opt for should look for a sectoral MBA program. Once you opt for these programs, usually you end up working in the same sector for rest of your professional career ( though there are a few exceptions to this ).
In terms of job opportunities few sectoral programs offer job opportunities in multiple industries ( like regular MBA program ), MBA in international business is one such program.
It is always recommended to pursue these kind of programs from select B-schools, as the lower rung B-schools which offer these programs will not be able to offer good education and placement opportunities.
Any one who is not sure of which industry/ domain they would like to work in or any one who wishes to work in multiple industries during course of their professional career must opt for a regular MBA program.
