New Normalization process introduced by SSC
SSC has released a notice for New Method of Normalization to be followed in exams conducted by it.
Old Method:
Scores were adjusted using averages, top scores, and variation (spread) of marks in different shifts. This helped compare candidates across shifts
New method (2025):
SSC has now adopted the equipercentile method. Instead of averages and spread, candidates’ percentiles (relative rank within their shift) are used.
Example: A candidate who is in the top 20% of one shift is considered equivalent to a candidate in the top 20% of another shift. This ensures fairness even if question difficulty varies between shift
