IIM Lucknow admission policy for CAT 25 released

The Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (IIM Lucknow), established in 1984, is one of the premier management institutes in India and the fourth IIM to be set up. Recognized as an “Institution of Excellence” by India’s Ministry of Human Resource Development, it plays a significant role in nurturing leadership and managerial skills.

IIM Lucknow has released their admission policy for admission into their MBA program. The following is a write up on the same.

During the first stage, initially a pool of candidates who satisfy the following minimum CAT percentiles are considered.

Category QA DI/LR VARC Overall
General 85 85 85 90
EWS 77 77 77 82
OBC NC 77 77 77 82
SC 55 55 55 65
ST 50 50 50 60
DA 50 50 50 60

Among the pool of candidates who meet the above mentioned percentiles, a list of candidates who would be called for attending Written ability test (WAT) and Personal Interview rounds is generated using the following parameters.

Components CAT score (CS) Class - XII marks (12M) Graduation marks (GM) Work Experience (WE) Diversity Factor : Academic Discipline (DFa) Diversity Factor: Gender (DFb) Total (A)
Weights (PGP) 60 10 10 10 5 5 100

One point to be noted here is that IIM Lucknow has given 60 marks out of 100 marks to the CAT performance of a candidate. This goes on to show that performing well in CAT would go a long way in securing a WAT/PI call from this premier B-school.

Note - The composite score for the candidates who qualify in Stage 1, and the shortlist for WAT-PI process shall be available on our official website www.iiml.ac.in. Such candidates shall be required to fill-in and submit the WAT-PI form online by the stipulated deadline. The candidates, who fail to submit their WAT-PI form online by the prescribed time limit, shall not be allowed for the WAT-PI process. Furthermore, no queries in this regard shall be entertained by IIM Lucknow. Candidates are advised to check the official website of IIM Lucknow regularly after the declaration of CAT result for the updates/notifications related to the admission process.

Stage 2 - Final selection of candidates

The following are the parameters and their weightages during the WAT/PI stage

Component Weights
CAT 30
12th Marks 5
Graduation Marks 5
Work Experience 5
Diversity Factor (Academic + Gender) 5
WAT 10
Personal Interview 40
Total 100

Note: The minimum requirement for getting a pass in Personal Interviews is 12 out of 40 marks. Names of candidates who do not pass in PI will not be included in the final merit list.

To conclude, one important observation about this year's selection process is that the total weightage for parameters which are controllable (CAT, WAT and PI) in the final selection stage has been kept at a whopping 80%. This ensures that the applicants, who do not have a good academic profile or work experience can still aspire to join IIM Lucknow by preparing well for CAT, WAT and PI rounds.
