The NMAT by GMACTM exam is a computer administered test owned by the Graduate Management Global Connection (India) Private Limited (GMGC), a subsidiary of Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC).
Yes, NMAT is computer adaptive exam. Questions in the NMAT by GMACTM exam are selected from the question pool for each examinee based on his or her performance on the questions previously answered. The questions a candidate receives are targeted at his or her ability level; therefore, a high- scoring candidate generally receives a more difficult sample of questions than a low- scoring candidate. The NMAT by GMACTM exam is scored by first obtaining the candidate’s final ability estimate based on the probabilistic model approach of modern exam theory, and then transformed to a scaled score ranging from 12 to 120.
There are close to 40 Indian B-schools which are accepting NMAT scores this year, they include NMIMS, Xavier University Bhubaneshwar, SDA Bocconi Asia Center, IBS, UPES etc. While ISB and SPJIMR accept NMAT scores, they do not accept these scores for admission into their flagship programs.
NMIMS-Mumbai is one of the premier B-Schools in India, having the advantage of being located in Mumbai, India’s financial capital. NMIMS-Mumbai falls in the "AAA+" Category in T.I.M.E.’s B-School rankings. Where as NMIMS-Bangalore and NMIMS-Hyderabad are ranked among the “A" grade B-schools. NMIMS Indore and NMIMS Navi Mumbai have not yet been graded as they have not yet completed 2 years.
The exam will be conducted from 4 November 2020 till 30 January 2021.

Yes, the exam pattern has changed.
To begin with, it has become a computer adaptive exam. The overall number of questions have been reduced to 108 from 120 earlier. This year there will be 36 questions in each section, earlier the number of questions were 48 (QS), 32 (LS) and 40 (LR). Though the sectional time limits have been changed, the total duration of the exam remains the same (2 hours).
This year GMAC is providing an option to test takers to either take the NMAT exam at a test center or take it from their home. This decision needs to be taken at the time of registration.Once they have booked the exam, they cannot reschedule to a different mode for the same attempt. However, they can choose the exam mode again, while scheduling the next attempt. Before opting for the take from home option, applicants should check whether their laptop/internet connection etc meet the technical requirements specified for NMAT exam, they can do this by visiting the following link
In case the test taker opts for the take from home option without checking the system requirements and if on the day of exam it turns out that the candidate doesn't have the necessary systems in place then the exam application fee will be forfeited.
The following is this year’s test pattern

Except for the section on Logical Reasoning, all the other sections of NMAT get well covered with a good preparation for CAT. However, it is advisable for a student to work on his/her speed mathematics as some of the questions under Data Interpretation tend to be calculation intensive. Also, 108 questions in 120 minutes means that the candidate needs to be quick in solving the questions.
The questions in reasoning section of NMAT are:
Series, Analogies, Odd man out, Coding & Decoding, Symbols & Notations, missing numbers in the figures and Direction sense.
Analytical puzzles (Blood Relations, Linear arrangement, Circular arrangement, Distribution, Comparisons and Selections).
Critical reasoning (Assumptions, Conclusions, Inferences, Strong & Weak arguments, Courses of action, Cause & Effect, Assertions and Reasons), Deductions, Input / Output, Decision Making and Venn Diagrams
You can study these topics from reasoning Study Material - SM 1002105 and SM 1002107. SM 1002107 covers the topics - Series, Analogies, Odd man out, Coding & Decoding, Symbols & Notations, missing numbers in the figures, Input/Output, Blood Relations and Direction sense. These topics were introduced to the CAT students in Logic Basics - 7, 8 and 10 (LRHO 1002107, 08 and 10). One can quickly be thorough with these topics by solving the exercises from SM 1002107. Particularly the questions based on Coding & Decoding and Symbols & Notations test the speed of the students. SM 1002105 has two exercises for each of the topics in analytical puzzles. There was a thorough discussion of each of these kinds of puzzles in Logic Basics - 1, 2, 3 and 4 (LRHO 1002101, 02, 03 and 04) and in LRPEs and LRTs. Venn Diagrams are discussed in Logic Basics 5 and 6 (LRHO 1002105 and 06).
SM 1002105 has four exercises (Ex 7 (a), (b), (c) and (d)) on Venn Diagrams. Students may solve the exercises 7 (a) and (b) first and then from 7 (c) and (d). As far as NMAT pattern is concerned, exercises 7 (a) and (b) are more relevant.
Among the critical reasoning topics, Assumptions, Conclusions, Inferences and Strong & Weak arguments were discussed in LR classes for CAT students. Chapter 6 of SM1002107 provides necessary practice exercise for these topics.
The NMAT model deductions were discussed in logic basics 10 (LRHO 1002110) class. The practice exercises for NMAT model Deductions questions are provided in SM 1002105 and that for Input / Output & Decision-Making questions are provided in SM 1002107. Input/ Output questions are quite regular in NMAT exam.
Finally, T.I.M.E.’s OMETs for NMAT are perhaps the best source for preparation. They are very close to the actual NMAT entrance exam paper and one should give maximum importance to these question papers as they provide very good exam practice to the candidates. The candidates can accustom themselves to the NMAT pattern by taking these mocks.
